Dr. Maynard P. Phelps

Dr. Phelps is originally from Detroit, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor under full scholarship, graduating with honors with a degree in Plant Biology. He then completed his dental education at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, earning prestigious scholarships from both the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Dental Society. With a strong commitment to giving back to his community, he chose to serve as a community health dentist in Charles City, Virginia, for two years after dental school. Dr. Phelps then completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training and earned a Master’s of Science Degree at Ohio State University.  He joined Hampton Roads Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2012.

Dr. Phelps is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and the American Dental Association.  While his main interest is in full mouth rehabilitation with implant supported restorations, his scope of practice includes intravenous sedation, third molar exodontia, orthognathic surgery, and maxillofacial trauma.  He has published several abstracts and original manuscripts in peer reviewed journals, including the national journal of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS).

Dr. Phelps met his wife, Dr. Joy Phelps, while in dental school. She is a Pediatric Dentist with a practice in Sandston, Virginia.  In his free time, Dr. Phelps enjoys gardening and other outdoor activities, traveling, and spending time with his wife and four children.
